Green Energy Park

The Green Energy Park in Zellik will be completed by the end of 2023. This is an initiative of the UZ Brussel and the VUB. The site is located in Flanders, near Brussels. The building is located along a very busy road making it essential to dynamically and uniquely light these buildings. This is why Ghelamco, which is responsible for construction and development of the site, called on our help. We visualised the architectural lighting design on the buildings to mimic reality and show how light can transform the buildings into real eye-catchers.

The building design focuses on maximum energy efficiency. The energy used is of 100% renewable origin, partly generated locally. In addition, heat from the servers is recovered, rainwater is used for cooling and the building uses circular materials. A super interesting project for us to work on, because the right lighting control also saves energy!

Jo Segers Jo has been working at Painting with Light as a designer for three years. He usually makes a rough sketch of his initial ideas for a new concept. Pretty old school, right? He translates these sketches into a digital sketch that serves as a basis for a 3D model he uses to make digital animations for the project. He rather enjoys communicating with the client about the designs, and he also looks after installation programming on some of the projects (usually with Céline). He loves the variety of his work. Each project has its own action plan, and this is different every time. He’s got a great anecdote featuring a colleague and a folding chair, but he’s keeping it a secret. That’s right, he’s very discreet too. As far as projects go, he has good memories of the 2019 Niels Destadsbader concert in the Sportpaleis. Not just because it was the first Sportpaleis show he was closely involved in, but also because of the great atmosphere.
