Walibi Exotic World - Kondaa
Walibi, a major theme park in Wavre, attaches great importance to updating and improving the visitor experience. In May 2021, the 'Exotic World' theme area at Walibi expanded by 45 hectares. With the mega coaster 'Kondaa', this area is a unique location for theme park enthusiasts as this coaster is the highest and fastest roller coaster in the Benelux. In addition, a children's attraction, a shop and a new restaurant opened. In this area, visitors are immersed in a jungle atmosphere, where there is an overgrown temple. This temple houses the megacoaster. The lighting in and around this temple was designed by PWL, we created a unique jungle setting with mysterious and exciting lighting effects.
Challenge
PWL visualised and designed the lighting plan and considered creative and interesting techniques that blended into the jungle vibe. The result had to be attractive to theme park visitors both at night and during the day.
Result
A unique setting was designed by the warm light design, you as a visitor imagine yourself in a real jungle. Outside, a fiery setting is created and across the entire area, cool objects are accentuated with light to emphasise the historic look and feel. Moreover, the bridges are illuminated, as well as several statues, the shop and the attraction's main entrance. Several lights were integrated into the plants and the rocky landscape, creating a natural effect. We integrated products from Acclaim, Lux Lumen and Chauvet.
